7 Ways to Improve Indoor Air Quality with Your HVAC System

Home > 7 Ways to Improve Indoor Air Quality with Your HVAC System

Have you noticed particles in your indoor breathing air? Motes of dust hanging in a beam of sunlight or collecting on surfaces?

Contaminants are floating around us everywhere. Poor indoor air quality is often most apparent during the winter and the summer when your home is sealed up tight to conserve energy and fresh air circulation is drastically reduced.

Poor indoor air can negatively affect your health and comfort by circulating bacteria and viruses and aggravating cold symptoms, asthma, and allergies.

Indoor Air Quality Solutions - Sanford Temperature Control

Thankfully, your HVAC system can filter your indoor breathing air and create a clean, healthy, and safe environment by improving your air quality and providing the following benefits:

  • Allergy Relief
  • Continuous Cleaning
  • Air Contaminant Removal. The Infinity Air Purifier not only traps pollutants but kills or inactivates up to 99% of germs, pollen, and mold.
  • Quiet Operation
  • Pet Dander Removal
  • Improved Sleep
  • Dust Removal
  • Elimination of Fumes
  • Dust Mite Filtering
  • Asthma Relief
  • Hazardous Compound Removal

#1 – Home Air Purifiers

Home air purifiers are one of the most common ways to reduce the contaminants in your indoor breathing air and enjoy almost immediate relief.

Home Air Purifiers - Sanford Temperature Control

Home air purifiers work in conjunction with your HVAC unit, filtering air through specialized air filters to remove sources of air pollution such as:

  • Common Cold, Influenza, Strep Throat, etc.
  • Smoke from Gas-Burning Appliances
  • Dust
  • Candle Smoke, Tobacco, and Incense
  • Building materials
  • Household Cleaning Products
  • Pollen
  • Animal Hair or Dandruff
  • Mold and Mildew

Installation of a home air purifier is easy and fast. Once installed, your new home air purifier will work 24/7/365 to filter contaminants from your indoor breathing air. It often extends the life of your HVAC system as well; the cleaner your indoor air is, the less it has to work to achieve the levels of comfort you deserve.

#2 – Aeroseal Duct Sealing

If your ductwork is leaking then your air quality is going to suffer, you’ll spend more on heating and cooling, and it will likely shorten the lifespan of your HVAC equipment by overworking it.

aeroseal duct sealing leajy ductwork - Sanford Temperature Control

Think about where your ducts are located—in walls, ceilings, attics, and basements—which means leaky ducts pull air from the dirtiest parts of your home … and into your lungs.

Gross.

Sealing leaky ductwork is an excellent solution to fix this problem. However, identifying those leaks used to be time-consuming and difficult, especially since ducts are tucked away in hard-to-get-to places.

Not anymore!

Ask us how we can analyze your system and prove how much conditioned air—think money—your system is wasting.

Aeroseal Duct Sealing is a proven solution for leaky ductwork and will improve your air quality. This process also reduces the workload on your HVAC system and reduces energy costs while maximizing airflow and comfort.

#3 – Duct Cleaning

Over time, ducts can experience a build-up of particles such as dust, dirt, pollen, bacteria, and more. These pollutants can get recirculated into your indoor environment.

Which of the vents below would you rather breathe through?

Pro Duct Cleaning Sanford Temperature Control

We recommend that duct work should be cleaned periodically to ensure indoor breathing air remains clean and healthy. How often depends on various factors such as the age of your home, the cleanliness/dirtiness of your current ductwork, quality of installation, whether you own pets, humidity, and much more.

Sanford uses a patented ROTOBRUSH™ air duct cleaning system to remove contaminants from your home’s ductwork. Our high-tech vacuum and brush system uses no chemicals or solvents and sucks up contaminants at the point of contact.

We also clean the air supply source, including supply and return ductwork leading up to the registers, as well as the main supply and return trunk. We then use an eco-friendly sanitizer (optional) to sterilize your ductwork.

#4 – Air Scrubber

NASA designed the Air Scrubber to ensure its astronauts have clean, breathable air. This cutting-edge technology is now available for your home.

An air scrubber can remove air pollutants, allergens, dust and pet dander, and much more. Ask us about Air Scrubber systems today.

#5 – UV Lights

Did you know that sunlight can kill bacteria, fungus, molds, and more?

Did you know that a professionally installed UV Light for your HVAC system acts the same way but that it can operate 24/7?

UV Lights for Indoor Air Quality - Sanford Temperature Control

Ultraviolet (UV) lights don’t rely on chemicals. Instead, these devices bathe your HVAC coil—an area known for harboring contaminants—with UV-C light that kills the microbial growth that favors dark, damp areas.

UV Lights will help cleanse your indoor breathing air while protecting system efficiency. They can be mounted in newer and older systems.

#6 – Humidifiers & Dehumidifiers

Humidifiers and dehumidifiers can perfect the level of humidification in your home, no matter the season, resulting in a comfortable indoor air environment and improving air quality. Humidifiers add moisture to the air when it is too dry, while dehumidifiers remove moisture when it is too humid.

Home Humidifiers and Dehumidifiers from Sanford Temperature Control

When you have the right amount of moisture in your indoor environment and humidity is maintained in your ideal range, you’ll benefit from a healthier, more comfortable indoor environment.

Why?

Because air that’s too dry makes you feel colder and will encourage you to set your thermostat higher than it needs to be during cold weather. Air that’s too wet causes uncomfortable humidity levels during hot weather.

Humidifiers and dehumidifiers provide benefits such as:

  • Fewer Illnesses
  • Protected Furnishings
  • Reduced Wear and Tear on your HVAC system
  • Lower Monthly Heating and Cooling Costs.

Our experts can incorporate the right product for your home, improving your comfort and reducing your HVAC costs.

#7 – Carbon Monoxide Detectors

There is no safe level of exposure to Carbon Monoxide (CO). Reports from the Center for Disease Control state that:

  • About 15,000 people are sent to the emergency room each year due to Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
  • 600 Americans die annually due to accidental Acute Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.

Carbon Monoxide Leaks Indoor Air Quality - Sanford Temperature Control

Carbon monoxide is known as the silent killer. It is a colorless and odorless gas that can cause permanent or lethal damage if gone undetected.

A very simple solution is to install a Carbon Monoxide Detector in your home. This detector, like a smoke alarm, will signal if there is any CO detected in your home.

With statistics like that, it’s clear homeowners ought to take CO poisoning with deadly seriousness.

I'm always impressed when a service provider takes the time to educate me about the product I bought. Eddie explained the protocols for maintaining my mini-splits
, provided me with the knowledge that he brought to the inspection and showed me how to improve the longevity of the product. In the process he convinced me to extend my service.
Good job -

Eric, our Sanford tech, did wonderful as always. maintaining our beast of a heating system takes skill. He is prompt and kind gets the maintenance taken care of quickly. He doesn’t mind the annoying dogs or the beam that you have to duck under going up and down stairs.

They check in the day before coming and Eric texts when on the way. He is always on time. We have been very happy with the work and the professionalism.

This was my first time using Sanford. Derek was amazing. He diagnosed the problem quickly, showed me the problem, and then quoted me a price which was very reasonable. He had the part on the truck and had the problem fixed within a half hour. From the person I made the appointment with, Irish, to the dispatcher I spoke with for an estimated time of arrival, to Derek, my experience was nothing but positive. I had such a great experience that I will always use Sanford for my heating, cooling, and plumbing needs. Highly recommended!

After Sanford did such an impressive job installing our new Bosch furnace last winter, it was a no brainer as to who we wanted to add a central air conditioner to our house.
They gave us two options and we chose to go with a heat pump. Jason and his team did an incredible job installing the system in just a single day. The quality of their workmanship is second to none and he couldn’t be a nicer person to work with.
Another great job by Sanford !

We had Brian B come to our home to conduct a follow up visit to evaluate our Carrier AC that was installed in February. Just like the three-man crew who did the installation, Brian B did an outstanding job of making sure that everything was working just fine. He answered all our questions and made sure we were confident that our AC would be working fine this summer. Great job.

Our tech was great! He was respectful of the space (and rolled with the chaos of small kiddos running around like goons), knowledgeable, and efficient. We’ve used Sanford for years and will continue to do so.

Kyle G. from Sanford was awesome and super respectful. They installed furnace and AC system. He explained everything without being condescending, helped set up the wireless system, checked it and his team cleaned up everything after the job. My standards are pretty high and Kyle not only met them, he exceeded them. Thank you.
